Japanese stab-bound books (aka Yotsume toji, or "pouch books") are an easy way to introduce yourself to the world of bookbinding. These books differ from Western books in that their pages are folded at the fore-edge and sewn through the loose edges. In the Edo era, they were commonly used for novels and romances, but they can be used for a variety of purposes from notebooks to photo albums. Materials will be provided, and students will end up with two or three completed books and notes to continue bookbinding at home. No previous bookbinding experience necessary.
