With 22 native species and hundreds of introduced varieties, the Greater Portland area is home to many outstanding trees. For this unique illustrated guide the authors have selected 132 local trees exceptional for their size, beauty, rarity, history, or other unusual features. Each description includes one or more locations of a notable specimen visible from the street, along with a color photograph. Scientific names are listed with pronunciation guides and the more familiar common name(s). More than 500 addresses are given from all parts of the metropolitan area, covering about 350 square miles and including Sauvie Island, Oregon City, Beaverton, Tigard, and Gresham.
